The Parish of Santa Rita shares the tithe with those most in need. A part of the money we receive is used to help other people who are in greater need. In addition to occasional aid to those who request it, every year we try to carry out a great aid project.
The two most important so far have been the aid to the convent of the Hermanitas de los Ancianos desamparados (Peru and Bolivia) where we raised $10,000; and we also helped Father Glenn Meaux to build houses in Haiti: we made $12,000
The project we have for this year 2022 consists of building a cable car that connects the communities of La Florida and Santa Rita in Venezuela.
The community of Santa Rita is made up of about thirty families who live on top of a mountain. There is no road to access the town and the path must be traveled down a valley, across a river and up the mountain. This journey can take up to four hours.
When there are emergencies, it becomes a very serious problem, because it takes many hours to get to the nearest hospital.
Father Luis Toro is in charge of caring for these communities and tells us in the videos that follow the difficulties of his parishioners.
Father Toro explains what the project consists of, showing images of the mountain where the community of Santa Rita is located and explaining the need for the cable car.
